"ROBINHOOD" - Connect Claude to Your Portfolio in 30 Seconds (The Smart Way)

Robinhood just opened the door for AI agents to plug straight into your brokerage account. Everybody's racing to let it "trade automatically." Here's how to actually set it up, plus the one rule that keeps it from torching your money.

First, What Actually Just Happened

Robinhood turned on AI agent access. That means you can connect Claude directly to your Robinhood account through something called an MCP connector. Once it's wired up, Claude can see your positions, pull live market data, and hand you real analysis on what you own and what you're eyeing.

The internet immediately jumped to "AI trades for you while you sleep." Pump the brakes. The smart move isn't handing a bot the keys. It's using Claude as the sharpest research analyst you've ever had, while youstay the one who clicks buy. More on that below. First, let's connect it.

THE SETUP

How to Connect Claude to Robinhood

Takes under a minute. In Claude:

  1. Go to Connectors
  2. Click Manage Connectors
  3. Click Add Custom Connector
  4. Name it something (like "Robinhood")
  5. Paste in this address:
https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading

Then click Add. That's it. Claude can now talk to your Robinhood account.

Robinhood will ask you to authorize the connection first, which is exactly what you want. Nothing moves without your sign-off.

PROMPT #1

Find Where the Money Is Going

This is the "what should I even look at" prompt. Paste it and Claude goes hunting for opportunities:

Look through startup funding, M&A activity, and private company valuations to figure out where private money is going that the public markets haven't caught onto yet. Help me build a portfolio based on that and invest $100.

One honest heads-up.Private-market trends (startup rounds, buyouts, pre-IPO valuations) are mostly not directly buyable on Robinhood, because Robinhood trades public stuff. So treat this as a research lens, not a shopping list. Claude's real job here is to translate "where the smart private money is flowing" into public stocks and ETFs you can actually buy that ride the same wave. That translation is where the value is.

PROMPT #2

The Monthly Portfolio Review

This is the one you'll use over and over. Once a month, Claude looks at everything you own and tells you straight what's working and what isn't:

Review my Robinhood portfolio for a monthly rebalance. Pull my positions, cost basis, weight of each, unrealized P/L, and each position's distance from its recent high. Flag any single position that has grown into an oversized share of the account. For each holding, check whether the original reason to own it still holds: recent earnings, guidance, sector news. Separate "price is down but the business is fine" from "the story actually changed." Then frame the broader market: index trend, volatility, rates, sector rotation. Use this for risk sizing, not market timing. Give me a table: KEEP / TRIM / ADD / EXIT per position, one paragraph each including the bear case, ranked by conviction. Default to "do nothing" unless there's a real reason to act. Most months, minimal changes is the right call. Do NOT place any trades. Hand me the list and wait for my approval. I place the orders myself.

Notice the last line. That's not an accident.

The One Rule That Keeps This From Blowing Up Your Account

Never let the AI pull the trigger on trades by itself.

Claude does the research. You make the call. You place the order. Every time. This isn't me being soft, it's the single thing that separates "AI made me a smarter investor" from "AI drained my account at 6am while I slept because of a bug or a weird market day."

Two more things baked into that prompt on purpose:

  • Default to doing nothing.Ask any AI "what should I change" and it'll always invent something to change. The prompt tells it that most months, the right move is to sit still. That instruction alone will save you from overtrading yourself broke.
  • Always show the bear case. You want the reason it might be wrong, not a hype sheet. Good decisions come from seeing both sides.
BONUS PROMPT

Want It on Autopilot (the Safe Kind)?

Here's the upgrade nobody in the comments is telling you about. Run two scheduled check-ins instead of one:

  • Monthly deep review (Prompt #2 above): the real rebalance conversation.
  • Weekly silent guard: a quick risk check that stays quiet unless something actually breaks. Paste this one:
Quick risk check on my Robinhood portfolio. Do not propose a rebalance. Only alert me if a position dropped hard this week on real news (not normal noise), a holding had an earnings miss or guidance cut that changes the thesis, or any single position now dominates the account. If nothing meets that bar, reply with one line: "All clear, no action." Never manufacture a reason to trade.

Monthly keeps you disciplined. Weekly is your smoke alarm. Neither one ever trades without you.

Who This Is For (and When to Skip It)

This is for you if you want a research edge and a second brain on your portfolio, and you're willing to stay in the driver's seat. It is notfor you if you're looking for a set-it-and-forget-it money machine. That doesn't exist, and anyone selling you one is selling you a story.

Start small. Learn the workflow. Let Claude make you sharper, not lazier.
